What Students Can Do

Whether you're an individual student or a student group, there are various ways to get involved at the ALS Hope Foundation. In our experience, students are successful in raising money by promoting events that their student body is enthusiastic about attending. Examples include, "Crawl for a Cure," Drexel ALS Awareness Association's semi-annual pub crawl, and "Hoops for Hope," a basketball tournament hosted by the Villanova ALS Awareness Club.

Other ideas include:

  • Bake-sale at University sporting event: everyone likes homemade baked goods, especially when they're away at school, missing home cooked food! Hosting a bake sale at a popular, University-wide event, like a sporting event, is a great way to attract donors! All you have to do is find out your school's regulations for an event such as this, and go from there.
  • Goldfish sale: many students miss the companionship of having a pet while they are away at college. Hosting a goldfish sale not only fulfills the needs of your fellow students, but also has the potential to raise significant donations and awareness
  • Letter-writing campaign: Initiating a letter-writing campaign can be a very successful and easy fundraiser to produce. Gather some friends to write and send a letter of appeal to everyone in your network, explaining the mission of the ALS Hope Foundation, your interest in giving back, and asking for a donation. The Foundation even has templates that you may use, making this one an extra easy project!

As always, we are more than happy to answer any questions you have. For more information, contact Maegan Bracken at (215) 568-2426 or Maegan@ALSHopeFoundation.org.
